Warren County Fire Prevention & Building Code Enforcement
The county department administers and enforces the New York State Uniform Code and Energy Code everywhere in Warren County except the Town of Queensbury and the City of Glens Falls, which run their own building departments. It issues building permits, reviews plans, inspects construction and issues certificates of occupancy. Plan review and permit issue take at least two weeks after a complete application.

Warren County has no county environmental health department; the State Health Department's Glens Falls District Office covers it. A septic system is designed by an independent design professional to the state's Appendix 75-A standards, and the code office handling your building permit confirms which approvals the design needs.

- Inside the Lake George Park, a stormwater permit is needed before creating more than 1,000 square feet of impervious surface, which includes the building, or clearing, grading or filling more than 5,000 square feet. Bolton, the Town and Village of Lake George and Queensbury run the program themselves; in Hague the Lake George Park Commission administers it.

- The county's permit requirements say both sets of plans must be signed or initialed by the town or village zoning officer before submission, and must show footings, foundation walls, framing sizes and spans, insulation values and egress windows.

- Warren County Building Codes publishes a Ground Snow Load Map for the county and adds 2 psf to the mapped value for every 100 feet of elevation above 1,000 feet, with parcel elevations read from the county GIS viewer's 20-foot contours.

Building on land near Warren County
Warren County land runs from suburban lots around Queensbury to steep, wooded parcels in the northern towns, with lake frontage on Lake George, Schroon Lake and Brant Lake in between. Higher ground carries a heavier design snow load, which is why the county tells applicants to check the parcel's elevation. Many northern parcels sit inside the Adirondack Park, and anything that drains to Lake George also falls under the Commission's stormwater rules, so a lakeside lot needs more planning than an open field.
